Washington Irving made an interesting observation about women when he wrote, "There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity."
His statement interested me because I know women who possess that spark. My mother is one of them. My mother always worked hard. When she was a young girl she quit school so she could help her parents support the family. Her father accepted the Lord and was called to preach the gospel when she was 7 years old. She learned to play the guitar so she could accompany her father when he preached on the street corners of nearby cities.
When she married, she accepted the responsibilities that accompanied that pledge. She was like the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31. She assisted her husband in providing the needs of the family.
She was faithful in doing the routine jobs of a household. When necessary, she worked in the factory, washed the car, took out the garbage, and mowed the lawn. She washed clothes on the washboard and hung the clothes up. She did whatever needed to be done... and she did it joyfully. She taught her children to work and to respect God and His Holy Word. I am proud of Mom...she did a great job.
